The infamous car in which Archduke Francis Ferdinand and his wife were murdered is offered for sale for the twenty fifth time. Four owners have died in the car since the original killing and others have perished by it. It is now called the property of the devil and regarded by chauffeurs as an evil eye though which eye is left unsaid.
In Bath Maine on September 6 James Dewitt Hill won the coin toss to pilot the Old Glory monoplanes nonstop flight to Rome. Lloyd Bertaud and Philip Payne joined as relief pilot and flight organizer. the trio aimed to cover about 4100 miles in roughly 41 hours with favorable weather and wind. A second note from Harbor Grace Newfoundland reports the London to London Carling flight delayed to tomorrow morning for plane maintenance.

Mount Summit Indiana report says James Kimbley 38 a medical student shot and killed his father after a family quarrel. He wounded his older brother four times and shot at his younger sister Theodosia 14 who fled to neighbors. Kimbley then killed himself. Dr William Kimbley was not fatally harmed and expected to recover.
Wayne B. Wheeler, longtime anti-saloon league leader and Ohio lawyer, died at a sanitarium in Battle Creek Michigan. His death ends thirty four years of temperance work as general counsel for the league. In Washington A J Barton of Nashville Tennessee was named as the favored successor by Anti-Saloon league officials.
A man weakened by illness and recent tragedy dies in bed with his son Robert Wayne Wheeler and Dr. Howard Hyde present at his side. The death follows the loss of Mrs. Wheeler three weeks earlier.
The Amarillo based air line, now called the Great Western Air Transport, replaces the Mono Air Transport name after another Colorado firm adopted Mono. H. G. Forster, Amarillo officer, says regular Amarillo routes are being planned with a Denver majority leadership including Maj. Bruce Kistler and Capt. F. N. Shumaker among others, with a major announcement imminent.
In Mount Vernon Newfoundland and Labrador on September 6, Mrs. Elsie Sweetin faced a retrial granted by the supreme court after serving over two years of a five year sentence for murdering her husband Wilford Sweetin with poisoning in 1924. The case also involved Lawrence Hight and Anna Hight, both linked to a plot to kill their spouses to marry. Hight is serving a life term.
An Indian Scout motorcycle belonging to Johnny Hayes of the Amarillo police department was stolen from the Indian Motorcycle shop overnight. Hayes had left the bike for repairs. it was parked in front of the shop and taken between midnight and morning. The wheel had been in service for a year.
Three railways Santa Fe Rock Island and Fort Worth and Denver grant excursion rates to Panhandle towns for Amarillo Tri-State exposition. Rates are three fourths of one way fare for round trips on assigned days September 13 14 15 16 and 17. 54 000 school tickets issued for free admission on town official day. On a Southern Pacific train near Berwick the passenger Clarence Adoue, 27, fired four shots at Henry Habbe, 28, killing him. Herbert Gourdain, unknown address, was wounded. Adoue leaped into the Atchafalaya river but was captured by railroad detectives and locals, then jailed on murder charges.
Criminal district court reopened after a three day holiday. O. V. Webb faces liquor law charges with trial underway and jury expected by afternoon. Arvell Meadors did not appear and bond was forfeited. Irene Atkinson also failed to appear and bond was forfeited. Henry Knighton and J. C.
