Hereford cattle plan major Tri-State Fair exhibit

Hereford breeders from the Panhandle of Texas Western Oklahoma and Eastern New Mexico received invitations to attend and exhibit at the Tri State Fair in Amarillo September 22 to 27. D L McDonald notes enlarged facilities and shows could yield the fair’s greatest Hereford display with 18000 in total premiums, 6000 in this department.

Nitro blasts wreck new 500000 bridge in Garland City

Three nitroglycerine blasts at 3:15 am wrecked the middle steel span of the new 500000 state highway bridge over Red river at Garland City Arkansas. The blasts damaged other spans, shattered windows 25 miles away, and severed highway links between Texarkana Eldorado Greenville and Bicksburg with no injuries reported.

Sloan Wins Legion Trip For Texas Post Excellence

Groesbeck Post of the American Legion earned the Rufe Scott cup and the Texas department award for the sixth district with 987.5 points. Fire destroys car and damages garage at East Twelfth

A model Ford caught fire Tuesday night due to a short circuit in wiring at 1917 East Twelfth Avenue. The flames destroyed the car and burned the garage roof before discovery at 9 17 o clock. Owner H Mason, a Santa Fe switchman, also owns the garage and expects insurance to cover the damages. no loss estimate given.

Poultry Show Plans for Fair to Be Made

Final plan for the Tri-State Poultry Show will be prepared at a meeting of the Panhandle Poultry Association Thursday night at the Chamber of Commerce office. President Robert Ricks urges all members to be present and assist in the plans. The meeting is scheduled to open at 8 o'clock.

Wheel er calls Americans suckers over Soviet stance

Sen Burton K Wheeler of Montana described the United States as a bunch of suckers for not recognizing Soviet Russia after a European tour that included a visit to the Soviet republic. He argued that recognition would not equal approval of its government and noted European nations gain business while the US hesitates.

One third cut on livestock feed ordered by commission

The Texas State Railroad Commission ordered a one third reduction in freight rates on livestock and feed to drouth areas. The cut effective Aug 28 through Oct 31 applies to carload livestock from stricken areas to feeding points, and to hay and straw for feeding. Rates exclude switching charges and depend on permits issued by originating or delivering carriers.

Dogs Run Loose Injure Several Children in Prospect Block

Several children in the 200 block of Prospect were bitten by a dog roaming at large. The dog will be held at the city pound for observation under health department orders. Bryan Mitchell of 207 Prospect sustained a severe bite on the left hand. treatment has been given and observation will be reported by city veterinarian Dr. E W Little.

Denver Announces Low Fair Rates for Tri-State Fair

F B Poole Fort Worth and Denver railway announces special reduced rates to the Tri-State Fair from all points with four fare classifications. Wednesday Sept 24 marks Children’s Day Fort Worth and Denver Day with round trips at three fourths of standard price. The Denver railway band from Childress will be a featured attraction.

Europe Orders Exile for New York Gangster Legs Diamond

The Prussian government ordered the expulsion of Jack Legs Diamond a New York gangster from Europe. He had been detained in Aix La Chapelle after U S officials confirmed Diamond was not wanted in New York. Germany Belgium and France notified and prepared for his escort to a designated frontier with Diamond citing stomach trouble and desire for Vichy as a reason.

Rain Falls Across Panhandle Plains During Night

Precipitation from light showers to an inch covered many Panhandle plains areas with ongoing rain in the morning. The Fort Worth and Denver line noted slow rain at Turkey and nearby zones, while Channing Dalhart and nearby points saw in keeping showers. Santa Fe reported good rains across the northeast New Mexico region. Clovia measured rain at noon, Canyon Hereford had morning showers, and Rock Island lines reported light showers over most Panhandle routes. No rain farther north at Liberal Kansas. Partly cloudy tonight and Thursday with possible thundershowers in extreme west Texas per the Weather Bureau.

Highway Body to Meet Friday at Groom

A meeting of the Texas Highway 66 Association will be held Friday afternoon at Groom beginning at 1 o clock. President J W Knorpp announced the session will cover vital association matters and plans to pave U S 66 across the Texas Panhandle. Members from five counties are expected to attend.
