Crowell Sheriff Is Charged With Misplacing Funds. Que R. Miller, Foard County sheriff and tax collector, faces a warrant for misappropriating about 25,000 dollars in county funds. The Cudahy Packing Company of Cudahy Wisconsin plans to buy about one million dollars worth of cotton between now and December 1 and hold it until prices rise. E A Cudahy Jr president says the move will help southern plantation owners reduce excess and lift cotton prices above production cost.

Gov. Gifford Pinchot denounced the Federal Farm Board as a huge costly lemon while addressing the Missouri Farmers Association in Sedalia. He urged economic equality for farmers, criticized high freight rates and tariff policy, supported the equalization fee, and noted debenture plan merits amid discussion of a Republican presidential run.
Walter L. Gifford named Owen D. Young of New York to chair a committee coordinating local unemployment relief with state authorities and welfare groups. Young, GE chairman, joins a national advisory group for Hoover and a panel of 18 members including Walter Teagle of Standard Oil and Henry Robinson, a Los Angeles banker.
A early morning blaze in Hamlin Texas swept the business district causing about 125000 dollars in damage. The First National Bank building housing Western Union and railway express offices was badly damaged. Fire crews from Stamford arrived after a 27 minute 20 mile run.

Oscar Fletcher aged 23 remains jailed at 1 pm on $1500 bond after being charged with assault with intent to murder in the shooting of Verna May Raney nine. Raney hospitalized since Sunday night but to return home today not seriously hurt. Fletcher and three companions Pete Allgood Woodrow Campbell and Cheater Shelton allegedly rode in the car when the gun discharged in North Buchanan Street near a BYP meeting. The car occupants planned to visit a skating rink and the bullet struck the pavement then the girl.
Salvador Cortez Rubio Jr., cousin of the Mexico president, returned to St Benedicts college at Atchison Kansas after a June 8 homicide involving Ardmore peace officers. He plans a semester of chemistry research before a future post in Mexico City. He accompanied Luis Cano Frias 17 son of a Mexico City attorney.
The Graf Zeppelin passed Fernando de Noronha in Brazil on its South Atlantic flight. The landmark sighting occurred at 2 40 P M GMT 9 40 A M EST as the airship neared the end of its journey.
Gov Huey Long wires Gov Ross Sterling urging immediate action on cotton legislation. He says Texas must prohibit planting of cotton in 1932 to save farmers, warning delay will render relief ineffective. In Austin, Sterling delays awaiting more legislative intent on a special session.
Rep G E Lockhart telegrammed Governor Sterling declaring he is unalterably opposed to calling a special session to amend a law to reduce cotton acreage or to consider the Long plan. He warned enacting such a law would be the worst thing for Texas and would violate the state constitution and free government principles.
Sen. W R Poage of Waco says he opposes a special Texas legislature session for cotton relief. If called, he will support a plan like McDonald acreage limits, reflecting district farmers favoring it.
Southwestern Bell officials arrived from Fort Worth to confer with Mayor Ernest O. Thompson about a requested reduction in telephone rates. The August 8 filing prompted a Tuesday morning meeting but no developments were announced by Tuesday noon.
Rudy Vallee and his bride Fay Webb have been under police guard after a caller claimed two men on an Albany train plotted to kidnap the radio star or his wife. Police Commissioner Edward Mulrooney said authorities investigated the alleged plot and provided protection.
