Parole Statute for Crime of Murder Stays Unchanged
In Austin on October 31 a state attorney general opinion held the adult probation and parole act does not repeal a separate murder statute that grants a suspended sentence if punishment is five years or less. The opinion, by Assistant Atty. Gen. Ocie Speer, notes courts may place felons on probation under the new act independent of defendant requests for jury recommendations. It concludes both statutes remain in force.
