Socialite Is Freed by Farmer Jury

Miss Marie Pierce a 26 year old socialite and farmerette was acquitted by a Clarke County circuit court jury of slaying Louis Townsend Moreland a 51 year old married farmer neighbor. The predominantly farmer panel delivered a 35 minute verdict after hearing defense and prosecution arguments. Pierce testified she acted in self defense within her home.

Sheep Run Loose After Truck Crash on Highway 87

A noon crash involving two trucks carrying sheep on Highway 87 near Station KGNC overturned, scattering about a dozen sheep. Three sheep died at the scene and several suffered broken legs. neither driver was hurt. Mrs. James M. Stone reported seeing the chaos from her home at 3811 East Seventeenth Avenue.

The American Dental Association wrapped its five day 83rd annual convention in Houston with clinics where about 8000 dentists studied new techniques. Dr J Bert Robinson of Baltimore College of Dental Surgery was named president elect. Dr Oren A Oliver of Nashville Town succeeds Dr Wo Ho Robinson of Oakland as ADA president. Richard L. Owens, co pilot of the plane that crashed last night, received his transport pilot wings yesterday in New York. He told his roommate Lloyd Rheinhardt, also a co pilot, about a celebration, but Rheinhardt had to fly the New York Detroit Chicago route that night. The plan changed and Rheinhardt went to Washington while Owens took the Chicago run.
