Hull disclosed that the United States learned the Soviet Union was ready to discuss a Finnish Soviet peace with territorial compensation. He said Finland must halt military actions to maintain U S friendship and awaited Helsinki's reply after informing Finnish authorities in August.
On 800 block of Kentucky Street, 12 year old Bob Rice launches and profits from multiple ventures. He pitches lawn mowing for a dime, sells handmade jewelry, and previously tried bottled drinks before focusing on ice cream and jewelry. Bob, son of Homer and Mrs. Rice of 830 Kentucky Street, is known for quick ideas and swift action.
Tokyo reports that the Japanese press declares the United States seeks to crush Japan in the Far East. It says a major declaration on deadlock will come and notes Tokyo's wary mood as parliament prepares for a crucial session.
Lewiston Idaho reports an obsessed ex convict shot and killed Lillian Boxleitner, 22, wounded her escort Elmer Paizer, then killed himself after writing Sheriff Hays about the crime. He left a note seeking property turned over to Franklin Moore of Clarkson.

At Randolph Field a woman tells Lieutenant Russ Spicer a parachute under his plane is unused. Spicer notes he has never had to use his parachute while watching aviation cadets land. The woman adds the government buys expensive gear and never uses it.
Stakes was named general manager by the Texas prison board in Houston after serving as acting GM since Oct. 1. He previously held the cashier post and succeeded O. J. Ellingson who was discharged.
O. McLeod, a zinc smelter worker, was released this morning on a $300 bond after a drunken driving case filed by the highway patrol.
Andrew Tiedeman 27 armed with a rifle faced five officers in his home on a Chicago afternoon. After a 45 minute standoff and appeals in German Irish and plain talk he surrendered and was placed in jail. His wife Florence 22 wept nearby as their two children played.
