Judge W. R. Ewing, injured on his Miami ranch when his car ran over him, was brought to Northwest Texas Hospital in Amarillo last night. X rays show a broken hip and fractured ribs, with doctors preparing to set the fractures. He lay on the prairie for about eight hours before a search party located him.
The Milwaukee area will be added to the Chicago St Paul Minneapolis air mail route and the Cheyenne Denver line will extend to Colorado Springs and Pueblo. Nineteen Amarillo residents faced county court warrants for meter tampering after allegedly altering electric meters to receive more power. Nine have been arrested and pleaded guilty. fines start at 25 dollars plus costs, with constable C. M. Davis filing the complaints.
Matty Matsuda defeated Johnnie Morris of Chicago in two straight falls in Plainview. Matsuda injured a leg forcing a two week retirement. Jack Gorman beat Irwin Hennershot in straight falls despite Hennershot’s fractured knee. Matsuda planned further matches after Amarillo stopover en route to El Paso.
Ottawa reports indicate no party won a working majority in the house of commons. Liberals were overthrown while Conservatives led by Arthur Meighen gained the most seats, defeating several ministers and Premier King in his own district amid tariff debates.
In Wichita a Sedgwick county jailer was slugged and bound with bedclothes as John Gordon alias Elmore Reynolds and Glenn McWhorter fled their cells at about 6 am. Gordon, linked to the Maurer slaying in Chicago, had escaped from California and Florida before. McWhorter remained in the bull pen as Gordon and Gordon’s ally seized the keys and opened cells, but only the two inmates escaped.
Sacramento reports William M Bowman a nine hundred year old typo miner pioneer spent eighteen years chiseling a tomb from solid rock. He built a coffin lined tomb within a rock house and will reside there until death signals its sealing with a white flag as a final prep.
Washington reports Colonel William Mitchell pleads not guilty as court martial rises for trial. Defense seeks possible subpoenas for President Coolidge and Secretary Davis but likely blocked. Proceedings paused with time to review witness list before Monday session.
City inspector C. G. Spencer said milk ice and other delivery trucks are using central street parking to advertise. He noted several firms leave vehicles parked long periods and some deliberately position bright wagons with exposed signs on Polk Street.
Holdenville Oklahoma October 30 A contractor from Enid Oklahoma L A Gallecez and a woman believed to be an Enid Plumbing employee were found dead in a hotel room. A gas stove was burning and a coroner s jury returned death from gas fumes.
C F Witham, veteran miner, returns to Cordova from Shushana country and reports discovering nine new silver lead veins up to twelve feet wide east of the Chistochina river. He observed blocks of solid galena lying on the mountain side.
