Poor Baseball Pickings and the Dying Draft
The draft dwindles as farm systems absorb top minors. Commissioner Chandler lists about 3000 eligibles for Nov 1, with few prospects likely to reach majors. Historical notes highlight Grover Alexander, Lefty O'Doul, Lew Wilson and other gems plucked early, while many later drafts produced little major impact.
