Wheat prices climbed 27 8 to 4 3 4 cents a bushel at the market opening after government loans of 100 million dollars to grain farmers via the Farmers National Grain corporation. The gains later eased to about three cents above Saturday's final levels.
Arthur Brisbane reflects on bold ventures from Columbus to Lindbergh and praises risk taking. He mourns architect Thomas Hastings noting his public library in New York and the Artington Cemetery memorial. Hastings credited with hard work and vision, including a Fifth Avenue reservoir remark.

The Supreme Court will review the government indictment against former representative Harry M. Wurzbach of Texas for allegedly using contributions from federal officeholders in his re election campaign. Wurzbach, a Seguin resident and four term Republican, challenged the Democratic opponent in the 14th district. The indictment was previously set aside over arguments that the funds were for primary elections and that the statute did not apply or was unconstitutional.
Amarillo backs Community Chest as executive secretary Mrs Anna Taylor announces the sixth year starts November 15 with a $40 000 goal to aid local relief. She expects 200 volunteers to raise funds, with workers in Blackburns ambulance Ph 2323 4.
A traffic rap on Canyon near Amarillo city limits left many cars mired in mud, with about 50 paying $3 to be pulled free. Paving work from the city limits to Ong Street awaits state and federal aid covering two thirds, while local owners would bear one twelfth if funds come through.
Mason King head of the trade extension department of the chamber of commerce left this afternoon for a tour of towns on the new Patapa Clinton line of the Santa Fe Railroad to promote expanding trade territory.
Sunday accidents claimed five lives across Texas. Oscar Brookshire died in Nacogdoches when his car hit a telephone post. Woodrow Bailey, 16, was crushed by a large boulder in El Paso. W Edwards, 78, was killed when his car was struck by a train near Galveston County Park. Dave Yeary died in Victoria after his truck overturned in mud. J W Daigles, 29, was electrocuted at a Port Neches refinery.
Three explosions rocked residences and a street car in New Orleans as the city grapples with a violent street car strike. One blast at John Bourdet’s house shattered the front gallery while Bourdet and his family, asleep, were unharmed. A second blast targeted B Paragne’s home, waking a motorman and his relatives. A third explosion damaged a street car vestibule as an explosive on the tracks detonated without injuring anyone.
Weatherford Texas October 28. The trial of R H Hamilton for the slaying of his son in law Tom Walton Jr 21 began promptly with two jurors chosen. Defense indicated a plea of self defense and questioned veniremen about an alleged suspect grey haired man. Jurors Cannon and Glenn are married farmers with children. Hamilton’s witnesses include Baylor University president S P Brooks and Dallas politician Cullen Thomas. District attorney Thomer son questioned veniremen on capital punishment.
Washington authorities will not oppose a March parole for Dr. Frederick Cook sentenced to 14 years and nine months for mail fraud tied to oil stock sales. His lawyer, H. C. Wade, said Cook may be eligible for clemency after completing one third of the term. Wade noted pending Ohio charges could be dismissed if aid is shown.
District Judge J E Carter presiding from Weatherford Texas imposes ten dollar fines on ten absent veniremen from a 150 member panel. The crowded courtroom notes four of the first five veniremen are Baptist church members with Hamilton identified as a Baptist. University of Texas students attend as witnesses alongside local officials as reporters struggle with the Simplem printing machines. The county superintendent's office is referenced.
