Disturbances erupted in Rio de Janeiro as a counter-revolution against the provisional government unfolded. The first cavalry, sixth infantry, and military police led the uprising, with Col. Figueira De Nello reported as a prisoner and similar unrest feared in Sao Paulo. Banks and stores shut, and civilians sought safety amid chaos.
Judge James Wilson closed the criminal docket with three convictions in jury trials and two weeks of work on equity. Fred Rogers and Marie Rhodes each drew eighteen months for narcotics violations while Leo Fidson received twenty months for currency alteration. J G Tyson former federal prohibition agent in the Amarillo division was arrested in Fort Worth on an indictment charging him with accepting a bribe. He posted 5000 bond to appear at the next Federal court opening November 17 in Wichita Falls. The indictment names alias John Tyson and concerns a report favorable to a defendant in a liquor violation case. Tyson is noted as no longer in the garment service.
A scene at English Field Saturday shows mail loaded into a westbound Transcontinental and Western Airplane for the Pacific Coast inaugurating air mail service through Amarillo. The line includes William L. Murphey, W. D. Peck Jr, R. O. Noel, W. L. Gaines, W. C. Kenyon, Amarillo postmaster, Congressman Marvin Jones and Col. Ernest O. Thompson the mayor.
Secretary Arthur M. Hyde told wheat dealers in Kansas City that the Farm Board will not dump wheat or flood markets. The board will sell gradually when prices are favorable and will not sell at a loss or undercut the current market.
A man posed as a robbed car victim to extract sympathy and money from drivers across Kansas towns. Police traced the hoax after discovering the man wore injuries and possessed clippings about previous false thefts. He admitted the ruse and was jailed.
The Chamber of Commerce reports widespread congratulatory letters from east to west coast chambers on the new trans continental air mail passenger service. Observance programs were held in many cities including English Field. Managers vow to promote air mail use whenever practical.

Mail planes began service Saturday with two aircraft starting from English Field. One flight goes to Columbus via Oklahoma City and St Louis. the other to Los Angeles and San Francisco. Eastbound carried six pounds 12 ounces of mail, westbound carried passengers. A large Sunday crowd watched arrivals from Kansas City and Los Angeles.
Magnolia Petroleum Company and its Standard subsidiary cut crude oil prices in Kansas and Oklahoma in line with Texas field cuts. The gravity based reduction ranges from 19 cents for low gravity to 88 cents for high gravity, and the new scale takes effect today.
The Interstate Commerce Commission will hold hearings in Plainview and Lubbock in December on the Texas and Pacific Northern 433 mile proposal from Big Spring to Vega Amarillo and Lubbock. The session runs to 4 30 with discussions on evangelistic and systematic giving departments. The pageant Prohibition Enthroned is slated for 2 30 and officers plus the 1920 National Convention in Houston form the closing agenda.
Firemen from General Station No 1 at City Hall answered an alarm from 100 Grant Street at 1 o clock Monday morning. No damage resulted from a trash fire at the site of the old Santa Fe general offices.
Boston reports Earl Carroll used the Channing Unitarian Church pulpit to attack City Censor John M. Casey over theater decency rules. Carroll accused officials of stifling laughs and criticized costumes and bans on suggestive content for his Vanities and Sketch Book chorus girls.
