Ruling in Athens player case hits many Texas schools
The executive committee of the Interscholastic League ruled Athens star Truxton Shaw ineligible for this season’s championships due to four years of sport. The decision, based on one sport counting against total eligibility, affected dozens of high school teams statewide. Amarillo reports none of its players are affected by the ruling.

McLarnin to Fight in New Weight Class After Weight Issues
Jimmy McLarnin will move up to junior welterweight and welterweight after difficulty making 135 pounds without losing strength. He plans to fight Tommy Grogan in Detroit on November 19 and, if he wins, may meet Baby Joe Gans or Ruby Goldstein at Madison Square Garden at around 140 pounds. McLarnin, 21, has grown from a flyweight and lost weight earlier for a lightweight title bout with Sammy Mandell last spring amid weather-related postponements.
