Chest Fund Drive to Start November 19

Standard Oil Officers Visit Amarillo by Plane

Col. R. W. Stewart chairman of Standard Oil Indiana led six officials on a Tri Motor Ford visit to Amarillo. They landed at The Amarillo Airport at 9:45 for fuel en route from Midland to Tulsa. Pilots were R. Lavine and Joe Thils from Chicago. They departed at 10:10 after refueling.

Scouts Seek Fifteen Thousand Dollar Fund Drive

Committees from Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts met at the Boy Scout headquarters to outline a drive aimed at raising 15000 for next year’s maintenance. The campaign begins November 12 with Mrs. Roy Cullum leading the women’s club outreach and others coordinating church ushers in Amarillo. At noon two thirds of the tickets for The Ship at the Amarillo auditorium were sold for tonight. The three act drama by Lt John Greer Ervine is directed by Oma Link Rowley and presented to benefit the crippled children's fund. Tickets are one dollar and will be sold at City Drug, through theater members, or at the door.

King Winter Grips Texas Then Retreated With Sunlight

The Associated Press reports cold weather across Texas with low temps reaching 58 in Brownsville while the Panhandle stayed milder. East Texas saw the coldest air, but warmer conditions are forecast for tomorrow as sunshine breaks through.

Five Die In Blaze At Eagle Hotel In Flophouse District

Fire swept the Eagle Hotel on South State Street trapping five derelicts in tiny third floor cage rooms. Six others were seriously burned and taken to a hospital. Fire Marshal Dillon called for an investigation and blamed a cigarette on a trash strewn rear stairway.

World war veterans who are American citizens or their sons and daughters may obtain college training through the will of LaVerne Noyes of Chicago. Parachute Jumper Menaces Circus Tent After Parachute Fails

James J. McFadden, a parachute jumper at the Georgia State Fair, leaped from a balloon and his chute failed to open. He landed head down on the circus tent canvas but suffered only a concussion and was expected to be released from the hospital.
