Early killing frost hits Amarillo area as cold snap begins

Storms Sweep State Drownings Tied to Texoma Flood
Two men drowned in the Washita arm of Lake Texoma during a weekend storm that stranded 15 on an island. Alvin Miller of Conroe and Volney Miller of Madill were in a 14 foot boat capsized by a 10 foot wave. Alvin was recovered, Volney missing. Eight of the marooned were rescued as the Moulton, largest boat on the lake, was beached after being damaged by a log.

Explosion Destroys Roundhouse Boiler in Amarillo
A massive blast at the Santa Fe roundhouse near Sixteenth and Garfield rocked Amarillo. A 70 ton boiler tore through the air, lifting 30 tons of metal and shattering windows, narrowly missing workers and a family in a nearby house. Fire officials say no injuries were reported. See EXPLOSION Page 2.

Duck Incident Wounds Hunter After Backyard Shot
