A B Alspach 61, superintendent of production for Prairie Oil and Gas in Borger, dies at City Hospital after botulism like illness. His wife Mary E Alspach 56 died earlier this week. investigators test viscera for botulism while lab analysis shows no metallic poisoning. The couple lived in Borger since 1927 with no children. The investigation includes state health authorities and Terrell Laboratories. Funeral plans list services in Warren Ind and Borger area with relatives attending.

The Akron landed at Lakehurst Naval Air Station New Jersey at 5 34 A M CST after an 8 hour 25 minute flight from Akron Ohio. The silver hull illuminated by red green and white lights hovered four hours before docking at 8 35 with its fin brushing the hangar entrance. Dr Hugo Eckener attended the arrival, linking the event to Graf Zeppelin visits.
Grand jury investigates the fatal shooting of Victor Smith 42 in Eller Flat area near Canadian Texas. Neighbor Robert Rogers 35 is jailed awaiting findings as five people, including Rogers’ wife, are examined. Smith’s funeral services held at First Christian Church with surviving relatives listed.
Funeral services were held today for John Warner Jr., four, who suffocated after falling into a cotton-filled pen while playing with other children in Bonham Texas. The accident occurred Wednesday.
The Tulsa World reports Vice President Charles Curtis could become oil industry dictator if the American Petroleum Institute approves a forthcoming plan. Hoover allegedly backs it. Walter Teagle also reportedly approves. If enacted, Curtis would limit production restrict imports regulate prices aiming at crude oil near 1.50 a barrel in the midcontinent.
Col and Mrs Charles A Lindbergh leave Victoria for Seattle and plan to reach New York by air tomorrow night. They flew 46 minutes to Seattle then head east toward Boise for fuel. They reenter the United States after the death of Senator Dwight W Morrow of New Jersey.
In Henderson Texas a gun battle with deputy sheriffs over six gallons of whisky killed Arthur Riley near Joinerville. Deputies Watson and Jackson opened fire after he refused to surrender. Riley formerly lived at Wink.
Peiping dispatch says Japan resumed air strikes on Manchurian cities with five bombs dropped on Kwangchengtze and six on Taosh ing. Casualties are not known.
Japanese airplanes bombed Chinese troops near the Taonan Tsushihar bridge over the Nanni River in Manchuria marking the most serious hostilities since the Manchurian dispute began. Japanese officials said Chinese fire on the planes that were protecting the bridge built by Japanese capital.
In Shanghai Chiang Kai Shek met Wang Ching Wei amid talks on national reunification. In Tokyo official circles reject China’s basic demands to the League of Nations on Manchuria while press reports say Dr. Alfred Sze presented them as an aide memoire to Briand.
J C Baker locomotive fireman entered a not guilty plea and waived preliminary hearing after the shooting of Sherlock Brand in a downtown Tucumcari building. Baker is held without bail as grand jury action is awaited. Witnesses T A McEntire and Sam Johnson said the men argued over a watch. Brand was a cowboy from a ranch west of Tucumcari. His mother and brother live in Oklahoma. The body will be sent to Erick, Oklahoma.
Judge Randolph Bryant ordered Gen. Jacob F. Wolters to show cause in Federal court why he should not be held in contempt for defying a restraint on the state railroad commission. The action concerns interference with Brock-Lee oil wells in the East Texas field. Wolters and others argue executive order protection. A hearing is set for October 29 in Beaumont before a three-judge panel.
President Hoover ordered a one minute darkening of lights at 10 PM as a national tribute to Thomas A. Edison. The White House observed the homage to the inventor who made electric illumination a reality. In West Orange at Rosedale Cemetery Edison was buried as dusk fell with the widow, relatives, and lab associates in attendance.
Twenty four members of the Golden Sandstorm football team depart tonight for Fort Worth to face the Central High Panthers at 7 PM in U. S. stadium. The sendoff at 8 PM includes the Sandie pep squad and high school band, with public turnout urged. Amarillo fans may use a Denver round trip rate of $9.95. tickets must be bought to Dallas then depart Fort Worth on any Denver train by Monday midnight.
Eighteen trucks return to paving work on highway No 12 north of Amarillo while over twenty truckers stay camped at the site. Strikers demanded one dollar per load for hauling and refused 91 cents. CG F Smith cited a living wage and warned they would not work at the lower rate.
Fort Worth on October 22 a negro, Cart ery Rollins, confessed to killing D. L. Reed 69 Crowley farmer and wounding Floyd H. Culton 35 dairy man near here Tuesday evening. Rollins was captured after a two day hunt by officers and citizens. He said he shot Reed during a surprise looting of the Reed home. Culton was at his kitchen table when wounded and expected to recover.
A Long Beach based Amarillo family reports California listeners can pick up Amarillo radio easily. WDAG announcer Donald Bennett received a letter from Mr and Mrs Backman and Mr and Mrs Conway describing Admiral Koontz’s Saturday program and other features heard clearly in California. They note Amarillo can be heard most afternoons between 6:30 and 7 oclock and say it sounds good to hear Amarillo.
The American Legion Hanson Post launches a house to house clean up campaign to raise the Community Chest total toward the 1992 goal of 65000. Current tally stands at 27524.90 with Chest officials and directors pushing ahead alongside Rotary Al B C Lions and Kiwanis volunteers. Carrie Nation heads the Legion effort with 20 team captains including Dan Crath Nat G Perrine A Peters Russell Fowler Ted Blackburn George Dr Jesse W Barr W Van Shaw Randy Lee Guy Lauders O R Allen Cecil Ingram and V W Hogan to canvass all residents.
Wichita Falls jury returns a death penalty verdict for Richard Johnson and co defendant Richard Brown in the August 8 Nodruft slaying near a parked car. The duo faced trial after a request for change of venue.
