In Evansville Indiana two escaped chimpanzees attacked workers at Mesker Park Zoo injuring George Davis and E J Morton as deputies and staff killed one chimpanzee and captured the other. Four Amarillo boys are in custody over the theft of two cars connected to a Texas chase and arrests followed near Estelline and Memphis.

President Truman told Southern Democrats not to settle party rifts by walking out in a huff and urged voters to oppose the States Rights ticket. In Raleigh he spoke at a monument ceremony honoring Andrew Jackson James Polk and Andrew Johnson and warned that backing the States Rights slate could aid a Republican victory. He planned a second political speech at the State Fair.
Plan calls for decorations to go up November 26 with lights turned on the same night. Chorus groups from Amarillo schools will sing at intersections from Third to Polk and at Sixth and Taylor and Seventh and Taylor. School children will perform from flat trucks at Polk and Taylor. Robert Louis Reed of Borger was sentenced today in the 84th District Court to two years for murder without malice in the stabbing death of Ray Casier, another Borger man, at Reed’s residence on May 21.
Sheriff Bill Adams reported 65 prisoners in Potter County jail Tuesday with 30 aged 21 or younger. The roster listed twelve juveniles under 17 for boys and under 18 for girls, highlighting a significant youth presence in custody.

The Mexican government declared the February 17 1948 bracero agreement terminated after US immigration authorities allowed undoc umented Mexican workers to enter without contracts.
