Car Crash Near County Farm Sends Four to Hospital

A three car collision on the west pavement opposite the county farm left four injured. Benson of Panhandle and Chermandy of Denver sustained serious cuts, burns, and broken bones but were expected to recover. The third driver escaped injury as ambulances rushed to Northwest Texas hospital to treat the victims.

Dempsey to Hunt Turkey at San Angelo

Former heavyweight champion Jack Dempsey plans a hunting party visit to San Angelo after the season opens November 14. Information from J Miles ODaniel of the Weel Grow ere' Central storage company cites Cy Hedards of Port Worth and HB Bonner as members. The group will hunt quail, wild turkey, and deer in Texas.

Frame Wins Feature Auto Race Sunday

The second day of the A. A. A. race card at the Tri-State Fair track drew about 8 000 fans as Pred Frame in his yellow Miller Special claimed the feature event a fifteen mile sweepstakes. Fred Frame won the five mile free-for-all in 4 58 1 6 driving the Miller Special. C Gardner took second and John Lee third. The Gardner brothers Ray and Chester from Independence Kansas raced neck and neck for first and second in the five mile heat with C Gardner first in 5 31 6 and Ray Gardner second Rex Edmonds finished third. Rex Edmonds then led the Fronty Ford in the third five mile heat ahead of C Gardner and others.

District Court Ends Busy Eight Week Term In Amarillo

Judge Henry Bishop cleared a backlog in the August district court ending eight weeks of heavy docket. Nine long standing cases were dismissed five divorces granted and several cases disposed of. Dismissed defendants include M D Fly William Burke Harry Evans Ralph Carlton Louie Cunningham Gordon Rice Julia Laird Frank Kendrix and Robert Jackson. Divorces granted to Grace Wallace Mae Ware B Nichols Bessie Dotson and Lee Sizemore. A plea of privilege was sustained in Humphreys v D M Young et al.

Chicago Gangster Slayings Tie To Bootleg Wars

The body of John Dano, linked to bootlegging under Genna, was found in Franklin Park as police questioned suspects connected to Hymie Weiss’s slaying. Three alleged gangsters including Vincent Drucci were detained at a football game. another man was questioned at a hotel. Police remark the suspects could know much about the Weiss murder.

Padlocks Lock Borger Buildings After Federal Raid

Federal Judge William H. Atwell made permanent injunctions padlocking more than twenty Borger buildings visited by a federal raiding squad. The padlocks must stay in place for one year and a day as defendants from the raid pleaded guilty to federal prohibition violations.

Rock Island to Run Trains to Oil Fields in Two Weeks

Rock Island lines will start service from Amarillo toward oil fields within two weeks. Vice president L. C. Fritch, after a Sunday visit, rode the new 18 mile stretch and praised progress. Grading continues on the Amarillo to Liberal section for 55 miles with 18 miles laid in steel. First trains to Wilston, 19 miles from Amarillo, to begin by November 1.

Five Miles Opened by Big Creek Company in Hutchinson Field

Big Creek Petroleum’s Merchant No. 1 extends nearly five miles west of the Hutchinson county oil area and opens a north bank block to that extent. Prairie Oil and Gas reports 200 feet of oil at depths from 2 707 to 2 175 feet, with several small flows possible. Sinclair Williams No. 1 and Anderson-Pritchard Lake No. 1 are poised to come in as the field grows, making this one of Hutchinson county’s most significant extensions.

Woman rushed to hospital in suspected poisoning case

Mrs. M. L. Brooks, 55, of 606 West Sixth Street, was taken to Northwest Texas hospital after reportedly swallowing poison. She suffered burns to mouth and face from the chemicals, but doctors said her life may be saved. An ambulance answered the call late Sunday night.
