New mystery disease cripples but does not kill
In Pittsburgh on October 17 a new mystery disease was described before the American Public Health Association. It cripples people temporarily but is not fatal, a form of dysentery linked to historic canal digging delays and military stoppages. Researchers Dr Millard Knowlton and Dr EF Lamoureux of Connecticut say a yet unidentified bacteria or virus causes it.
