Blast in Mine Fatal for Ten
MORGANTOWN WVa Oct 16 A gas explosion killed 10 men in a coal mine yesterday. An entire crew underground at the Trotter Coal Company bunker line about 10 miles northwest of Morgantown was wiped out. Thirty to forty other miners escaped harm. Company president James F Trotter said the accident was the first major one since the mine opened in 1918 and the cause remained unknown though a broken cable or other trigger could have touched off gas after a normal fall at the working face released a gas pocket.
