United Press report from Springfield Missouri states Little Jake Fleagle died in Baptist Hospital at 9 55 am after an abdominal wound from an officer on a train at Branson while fleeing. He had led bank robberies and train holdups and was bound for related charges in Colorado and a Lamar gang case.
A heavily armed bandit forced three Montgomery Ward officials at 1017 Polk Street to lie face down in the store office at closing time. He threatened to pour acid on them if the safe wasn’t opened, but the intruder left empty handed while more than 1500 dollars remained visible on the desk. Tolbert assistant manager and officials BR Armstrong and W E Elliott were present as two other workers guarded the first floor. The thief departed after failing to gain access.
Two new transcontinental air lines opened, linking San Francisco to Columbus and Los Angeles to Atlanta via Dallas. The Amarillo stopoverwill host overnight passengers on east and westbound ships as service inaugurates. Air mail launches on both Western Air and T A T lines through Amarillo on October 25.
Ste Genevieve Missouri October 15 National guardsmen mounted machine guns on the county courthouse roof and patrolled streets with bayoneted rifles to prevent an effort to free nine men tied to a possible lynching or kidnapping of Louis Ribeau a Black mail carrier cited as one of the few remaining in town after a deadly shooting spree. Detachments from Festus and De Soto were recalled as the situation quieted though authorities denied martial law. Race tension rose after three suspects including a woman confessed to killing Harry Panchot and wounding Paul Ritter during a highway hold up leading to renewed hostility toward Negro residents.

Colquitt Davis was found guilty in district criminal court of stealing Kodaks and equipment valued near $100. A jury sentenced Davis to two years suspended. the state’s case was circumstantial and Davis pleaded not guilty.
New York police hunt four gunmen after gangster Jack Legs Diamond was shot five times in his hotel room. Doctors reported pulmonary collapse and a grim prognosis as witnesses identified hotel staff and companions among four material witnesses.
The American Federation of Labor instructed its president William Green to protest to President Hoover against alleged wage reductions in United States navy yards. The protest followed a convention floor attack on Secretary of the Navy Charles F. Adams over wage reclassification, with G M Bugniazet accusing Adams of backing outsiders and opposing labor.
Laura Ingalls, St Louis aviatrix, seeks a new west to east transcontinental flight record for women and arrives at Wichita municipal airport amid weather delays. She previously flew Los Angeles to Amarillo in 12 hours 13 minutes total. Fellow 18 year old Robert Buck also faces weather delays while aiming for a junior trans continental record and denies a race, though he plans to beat her back. Buck awaited weather reports at the airport as Ingalls landed after leaving English Field.
Weather restoration in the Panhandle allows highway travel from Amarillo toward Oklahoma City with 66 inoperative between Amarillo and Oklahoma City. Rail traffic on Fort Worth & Denver and Denver trains on schedule by noon. Rock Island to Amarillo-Tucumcari line resumes tonight. bridges on Amarillo-Liberal remain under repair until Friday. DRY BUREAU reports it sent 3000 newspapers questionnaires to editors to gauge whether the press favors the eighteenth amendment and national prohibition, opposes, or remains neutral. Findings will be published later as a monograph. the effort is funded by a $50,000 appropriation for an educational campaign.
Jay Bonner, 13, of Chelsea, was charged with manslaughter in juvenile court for the shooting death of his father C. C. Bonner on the Bonner farm. The elder Bonner was killed after allegedly abusing the boy’s mother, with the incident occurring Monday.
The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals affirmed Clyde Thompson’s death sentence for the 1928 murder of A L Shook, and dismissed Pedro Aguilar’s death plea as he is a fugitive. The court also upheld life sentences for R P Strickland for the 1929 shooting of R L Williams in Clay County.

Dr Paul Loebe Socialist was re elected president of the Reichstag in Berlin marking centrist support amid rightward pressure. In Berlin 126000 metal workers struck at 10 am demanding relief from eight percent wage cuts for over 18 and six percent for under 18, creating a new snarl in the German economic and political tangle.
The Associated Press reports that Dr. BR. B. Rheen announced he ordered an inquiry into the deaths of 19 people in Newark New Jersey over the past two weeks who, it is said, died from drinking denatured alcohol diverted from commercial channels.
The State Department fully supports the Brazilian government as the revolution enters its eleventh day. Federal forces claim victories across Sao Paulo Parana, Minas Geraes, and Eastern Rio de Janeiro, with rebels facing growing pressure and predicting a decisive battle in the Sao Paulo Parana region within days.
Amarillo secures air links as Transcontinental and Western Air inaugurates a second daily transcontinental service from English Field. One flight heads to Columbus via Oklahoma City Tulsa and St Louis with 11 passengers aboard. another to San Francisco via Albuquerque and Los Angeles carries seven passengers. Air mail begins October 26. crews include Captain Gallage and Captain Campbell with mates.

Randall County captured first place and a 350 prize in the state fair agricultural exhibit in Dallas with Harrison County second at 325. Eastland Marion Wheeler Henderson followed in order with 3300 275 270 250. The same exhibit by Randall County Agent W H Upchurch won at the Tri State Fair, marking his third straight victory here as the exhibit scored 963.4 of 1900. Upchurch is hailed as a master of the craft, likened to Knute Rockne in coaching for his insight and method.
