Col. W. E. Talbot the Republican gubernatorial candidate speaks at the district courtroom in Amarillo at 7:30 PM arguing a pocketbook campaign focused on prosperity jobs payrolls and industrial growth for Texas. He says he is not a politician but will unite leaders to promote a statewide push to utilize state resources.
Jake Fleagle, sought leader of a bank bandit gang that killed four in Colorado, was shot during an attempted boarding of a Missouri Pacific train in Branson. Eight officers pursuing him on the train fired or confronted him as he entered the car. Fleagle was wounded in the abdomen and later identified himself, admitting involvement with others in the crimes.
In Boston on October 14 police and communists clashed outside the American Federation of Labor hall. Several arrests were made as police tried to disperse the demonstration after denying access to attendees. One speaker was seized, prompting rescues and a hand to hand melee with officers. Police used reserves and taxicabs to move detainees while convention business continued.

The body of Henry S. Gooch arrived from Los Angeles and lay in state at the family home on Monroe Street as Rotary Club members kept vigil. Funeral services were set for 2 PM at St Andrews Episcopal Church with Bishop Seamon officiating. pallbearers and honorary pallbearers include numerous Amarillo Rotary members.
Potter County tax values rose by about two million dollars in 1929, lifting total valuations to 40,654,588 the first time over 40 million. Railways pipelines oil and gas firms and new improvements drove the gain, offset partly by depreciation on business and residence property.

R W Rich Brown a rancher died crossing the Cageby River near his ranch 25 miles south of Canadian. His horse tangled in a submerged wire spurred Brown to dismount and he was believed kicked by the horse. A hired man with him refused to cross the stream and warned him. The body was recovered shortly after the accident.
County Judge Sam B Motlow announced that Potter County architects Townes Lightfoot Funk and Page and Page of Austin have their eight story courthouse plans approved with minor changes. A Dallas structural engineer will review them, with plans in his office by week’s end and return in a week. A building bid likely by late November.
City health officer Dr. H. H. Latson says no infantile paralysis cases have been reported. Rumors have caused parental fear despite one fatal case and a single child with a cold at a local school. Health map shows three contagious cases under quarantine including scarlet fever near Nineteenth Avenue and Mifteenth? area and typhoid in Highland Park Addition by Tri-State fair grounds.

Amarillo friends await news from Baltimore as Mary Beasley, daughter of Mr and Mrs J N Beasley, faces brain tumor surgery at Johns Hopkins Institute. Immediate downward revision of crude oil prices in the Mid-Continent is planned by major oil buyers. Mrs Alma Wilson McKinley a 24 year old heiress and expectant mother was seized at her father Benton Wilson s ranch near Greenfield Missouri last night by a masked kidnapper armed with a shotgun. Sheriff Olin Killingeworth said the kidnapper took the woman after binding and gagging her mother. the car was last seen near Aldrich with Wilson and his sons racing back from Kansas City where they were with cattle. A $2000 reward was posted by Benton Wilson for her safe return and capture of the kidnapper.
The Oklahoma supreme court sustains the state oil conservation laws and the corporation commission authority to prorate flush state fields. The ruling in a writ of prohibition followed a challenge by the C. G. Julian Oil and Royalties Company. The Julian outfit allied with Champlin Refining Company to contest proration.
