Kansas City livestock report notes hogs salable 3,000 head, prices mostly 14.40 to 14.55 for 140-180 Ibs, cattle salable 11,000 with calves 2,500. beef steers active, other classes largely steady with modest shifts.

Meanest Man Steals From Poor Children

A man stole several bushels of green tomatoes from a 10 acre PTA Council garden for the Free Lunch Project. He posed as sent by the PTA and enlisted workers at the McDonald Water site to take only the largest produce. Other thefts from nearby gardens have been reported.

Conscientious objector Murphey jailed for 3 years 6 months

George Hulen Murphey labeled a conscientious objector was sentenced in U S Court to three years and six months in the reformatory after failing to report to his draft board. Judge James C Wilson also handed Horace Wells a five year penitentiary term for probation violation. The report notes market listings for Nebraska, Missouri and Colorado cattle and sheep, with ranges and prices for yearlings steers cows and lambs.

Amarillo Considers 10 A M Store Openings

Amarillo Chamber of Commerce directors may decide tomorrow noon on recommended later store hours to ease traffic. Transportation committee led by Jess Rogers will present proposals from merchants professionals and wholesalers. If approved the plan would begin November 1 with 10 A M openings to stagger peak bus and worker flows.

Cookie Jar Emptied as Soldiers Stop at Amarillo Center

The cookie jar at the Service Men's Civic Center in the Amarillo Hotel is empty after a surge of soldiers visited yesterday. Amarillo women baked cookies for the troops who pass through, using sugar they were repaid for, and the treats were shared with soldiers departing on troop trains.
