Synthetic Fuels Highlight Of Mechanical Engineers Session

The American Society of Mechanical Engineers petroleum division closes its convention with two top sessions on Synthetic Liquid Fuels and shale oil development. W. S. Old Settlers Name Patton as President

John Patton of Hereford, who joined the Panhandle in 1895 from Stephens County, was named president of the Panhandle Old Settlers Association at the annual meeting in Municipal Auditorium. He succeeds Judge W. R. Ewing of Pampa as president. Judge Ewing led the informal gathering and introduced a brief program that allowed time for visiting among pioneers who came to the Panhandle when the region was new. Turkey Track Ranch was noted as first vice president with W. J. Flesher of Amarillo as second vice president.

Shivery Spell Hits Amarillo With Cold Front

A rapid moving cold front swept over the Panhandle early Wednesday lowering temperatures by about 10 degrees from Tuesday. Walter Watts of the US Weather Bureau at English Field forecast 42 degrees overnight with a high near 69 Wednesday and 72 on Thursday. Tuesday reached 81 with a 48 low. A trace of precipitation was noted in Amarillo Tuesday afternoon.

Dimmitt Bull Champion Tops Shorthorn Class at Fair

Judge James W. Box presided over the Milking Shorthorn division as mature bulls from Moss Howell of Dimmitt and other regional breeders vied for top honors. Howell’s bull won senior champion in preliminary judging, with first place awards given to Lewis Brothers Levelland junior consignments and others across categories.
