Al Mason of the Hotel and Restaurant Employes Union spoke to about 50 retail clerks and food handlers at Carpenters Hall in Amarillo urging organized labor support for a fair earnings share. He praised local merchants, noted wage hours law aims, and urged unity across white collar and blue jean workers with a second open meeting planned.
An Army Flying Fortress with seven officers aboard including Col. Frank M. Kennedy landed briefly at English Field in Amarillo after a motor leak. The group from Wright Field, Dayton, is en route to Dayton after inspecting West Coast airplane factories. The bomber, crew of nine, carries 6000 pounds of bombs, five machine guns, 260 mph cruise, and 6000 mile range.
Caravan chief Clay Thornton reports 15 new pledges from firms and groups to send relatives to the Quay County Fair caravan next Friday. The motorcade will depart 8:90 a.m. from the chamber of commerce with at least 100 participants. New supporters include Griggs Funeral Chapel Amarillo Hotel Southwestern Bell Telephone Herring Hotel Berdens Southwestern Store Pix ture Amarillo Times United Fidelity Insurance Amarillo National Bank Amarillo Garage and Storage Yellow Cab. The Piaing Boat Club plans to send about 39 people and more entertainers may join.

City commission considers ordinance relocating Washington Center streets to new sites for a subdivision south of Seventeenth Avenue. Proposed by Hugo Loewenstern the plan avoids dead ends while reallocating Eighteenth Nineteenth Twentieth Madison and Jefferson avenues.
Amarillo city officials discussed a tax survey to re valuate real estate using reproduction cost minus depreciation. Pritchard & Abbott representative W T Macy, former Fort Worth tax collector, said the process could standardize valuation and speed up equalization. Macy estimated a three month timeline with no price set. Perry Burks noted past use of unit system and potential appraisal need. Joe Jenkins led the session in Mayor Rogers absence.
Hanson Post of the American Legion will launch a memberships drive tonight with a stag party at the post home. Bruce Autry, commander, said over 150 memberships have already been obtained. At last night’s post meeting there was entertainment including old-time fiddle by George Hammock.
Randall County deputy sheriff Lloyd Lyon reported to Amarillo police that six hogs were stolen from D. B. Slagle on a farm south of Amarillo.
Oscar Short cornetist with the United States Navy band, a former Sousa soloist, will give two or three Amarillo concerts on November 4. A pupil of Edward L Afri caine, he has soloed under conductors Pat Conway, Arthur Pryor and Edwin Franko Goldman. The Navy band appearance is a benefit for Amarillo High School band uniform fund arranged by Mayor Ross D Rogers.
Sgt. R. M. Hammett of Austin arrived to bolster the Amarillo Highway Patrol district bringing the force to 17 men. He came with his wife and six year old daughter and is living at 401 Maryland.

Tire thefts continue in Amarillo with police urging motorists to park in garages at night. The latest theft occurred at 11 Georgia Street reported by Mrs J B Joy. The spree began several days ago with multiple tires and wheels stolen by unknown suspects.
Only two wedding licenses were issued in Amarillo during the period, far below the average of more than one per day. No licenses were issued last Saturday, an exceedingly rare occurrence noted in the report.
Charles N. Miller assistant national director of the division of operations for the Boy Scouts of America met the Amarillo Area Council executive board at 5 PM. He arrived in Amarillo that morning after visiting West Texas State College Canyon and other sites. Topics centered on better training for local Boy Scouts. Miller has long served in scouting roles since 1916 including national field director and Twelfth Region executive.
On H R Smith's suggestion the city commission changes meeting time to 7 30 PM from 8 PM starting next Tuesday. The 7 30 PM slot has been used in winter months for several years.
Reed artist Rudy Levey from Chicago, a leading reed musician with 26 years in radio theater and symphony, will visit Tolzien Music Store at 819 Polk Street all day Friday to discuss musicians issues and present the C G Conn line. Musicians are invited to meet him and seek guidance.
