Attorney General Claude Pollard ruled for the state board of control that it has the absolute right to determine the brand of machinery for the State Highway department. The decision sustains the board in a dispute over a 300000 dollar portion of a 500000 dollar road equipment purchase, over which the highway department sought its own choices.
Near the U S Mexico border twenty miles east of El Paso, a fatal shootout leaves an unidentified man dead and three others wounded as rum runners clash with U S border patrols. Snipers fire from the Mexican side and a large liquor drop is found as authorities recover twenty sacks. The fight ends with the smugglers fleeing back to Mexico.
