Senator Joe Robinson, candidate for vice president, heads to Amarillo Friday drawing wide Panhandle interest. Local organizers expect delegations from nearly every Panhandle city and plan a special Arkansas-born Amarillo delegation of about 200 natives to greet him at the train and occupy a reserved section at the auditorium. Robinson speaks at 3 PM after arriving 1:50 PM on the Fort Worth Denver and departing 6:20 PM on the Santa Fe for Clovis.
A bandit on a ferry was seen by a brakeman who alerted immigration officers. Train crew and officers were unaware of the robbery until surprised by the suspect. They overpowered him without a weapon being drawn and took him to headquarters where he confessed.

Immigration officials indicated that proceedings against George Remus, the Ohio bootlegger convicted of bootlegging, may be dropped. Remus had entered the United States from Germany and had asked for delay until October to clear himself. No action has occurred since then and the extension has expired.
Rome October 3 Gene Tunney and his bride Marie Josephine Lauder faced a hostile crowd as they left the Hotel De Russie after their wedding. Organizers, likely disgruntled photographers, jeered and resisted Tunney's refusals to pose. He threatened to break cameras. the couple's car fled north as onlookers spat at it.
A Amarillo Real Estate Board delegation will travel to Roswell New Mexico to attend the Cotton Carnival. They will cooperate with the Board of City Development to bring a large Panhandle visitor group. The luncheon approved a resolution praising Tri-State Fair officers for the 1928 fair's success.
Jesse B. Hooks a 60 year old man burned in a $50,000 Sour Lake pumping plant fire died in Beaumont Texas hospital. The blaze damaged the Texas company facility and Hooks succumbed after injuries suffered in the incident.

Bill Benton county tax assessor was elected post commander of Hanson Post American Legion at their annual meeting in the Legion home. He succeeds Captain A Petersen. Drum and Bugle Corps plan to attend the National American Legion convention in San Antonio next week. Other officers elected include F E Nelson first vice commander C C Gibson second vice commander J W Barr third vice commander Roy O Greenhill finance officer A Peterson chaplain Gus E Moe historian and Ralph Tomley sergeant at arms.
Delegates to the annual W C T U of Texas convention at Galveston opened with a virulent denunciation of Governor Alfred E. Smith of New York and Tammany Hall. Former State Senator W A Collins of Dallas endorsed Herbert Hoover and challenged Texas Democrats to purge morality and law enforcement opponents from the party. The Southern Baptist church will pursue civil action to reclaim 14,000 dollars advanced by Clinton S Carnes, former Home Mission board treasurer, to Mix Sonia Nordlie Louise Pope and Lois Griffin.
