Amarillo’s city lake near the city is at its lowest level since it began holding water. At the deepest point the lake sits four feet low, threatening thousands of fish. the state fish and game commission lifted size limits on catches at the lake on a biologist’s recommendation, while talks continue on removal or other actions if rains do not come.
W F Cretney and the Cretney Drug Stores expanded from one shop with three staff to four stores in three cities, employing over 70. The Pampa main store now uses self service like grocers with a free tea room for public events, and an in-house ice cream company serves all locations.
At 1 PM the Dow Jones industrials rose about 24 points while various stocks advanced. Kansas City live stock report notes sales uneven with cattle, calves, and sheep detailed. lamb bids steady to higher and yearling prices around 11.75 to 11.85 for select lots. Financial Security Fund quotes liquidating price at 61.57 and offering at 1.73.

Montreal October 3 The phrase Tell it to Sweeney returns in letters from German-occupied Norway. A note reads Everything is serene and better with plenty of food yet urges the reader to tell cousin Sweeney about the situation, reflecting somber wartime sentiment.
Bucharest reports claim Romanian Foreign Minister Prince Custin Sturza accused Reginald Hoare, British minister to Bucharest, of involvement in sabotage plans. Sturza rejected Hoare’s protest over the arrest of five British subjects as unjustified and said investigations show Hoare to be largely to blame.
Mrs J S Phipps of 713 North Arthur Street suffered several broken ribs after a bathtub fall Sunday night. She is confined to bed and reported as getting along all right despite painful injuries.

The city building inspector issued permits for two new homes in Amarillo this morning. Edwin Lee received a $4,000 five room frame at 2809 Polk Street and Clifford McMurtry received a $2,900 four room frame at 1313 West Sixteenth Avenue, adding to the year’s construction costs totaling $2,063,570.
Frederick, Md. Oct 3. The pump quit on C. Lease Bussard’s farm. Bussard climbed into the 30 foot deep well to repair it and found a 200 pound hog had crashed through the flooring, disabling the pump. Farmhands hauled the hog out in a sling.
