In Herford Germany AP reports UNRRA has dismissed suspended or arrested more than 600 workers accused of diverting relief supplies into the black market. The items reflect wartime relief misuse and are part of ongoing postwar reviews by Allied authorities.
Dwight Davis died at his Washington home at age 66 after six months of heart illness. A St. Louis native, he served as director of the War Finance Corporation, then assistant secretary of war in 1923 and secretary in 1925, and ordered Col. Billy Mitchell’s court martial after Mitchell criticized military leadership.
United Automobile Workers seek presidential intervention to end a General Motors strike, with Labor Secretary Schwellenbach urging talks. Elsewhere UNRRA reports arrests of workers in the British zone and vows to replace them with demobilized soldiers as investigations continue.

In Muskogee Oklahoma Mrs. Charles Hull sues for $100000 claiming her July born daughter Jo Ella was misidentified as a boy at Checotah area hospital. The suit asserts mental anguish and references birth records listing Clancy Charles Hull before the mis ID was discovered. Hull plans to keep the name Ella and press the hospital for damages.
The Pearl Harbor study records show General Marshall sent a late warning to General Short in Hawaii about an imminent Japanese attack. The cable message reached Hawaii within 45 minutes but was not handed to Short until about three hours before the assault.
Police listed five moving traffic cases in Amarillo with total fines of 55 dollars. An additional 20 traffic violations were recorded, bringing the overall traffic fines to 82 dollars. Named offenders include Glenn W. Green speeding 10, Lorene Davis no license 10, Haskell Sharp speeding and no license 20, J L Burt Jr speeding 10, and H H Naninger passing red light 5.
U S Army headquarters named six of seven American soldiers killed and four of six injured in last Friday's ammunition dump explosion 35 miles north of Calcutta. Injured victims include Pfe. Clyde Bruton and next of kin Mrs. Rhoda Bruton of Nacogdoches.

Charles A. Lindbergh shot down a Japanese Zero at Balikpapan on October 10, 1944, during a Far East Air Force raid. He then returned to base with no damage, while top aces Bong and McGuire flew in his formation. One enemy plane remained uncredited due to record keeping. Lindbergh later left for New York after a stay in Mexico City.
