Suit Against Sheriff Gels Court Dismissal

A damage suit against Sheriff W. M. Adams and former deputy Roy Brewer by Donald Mann was dismissed in 108th district court on motion of the plaintiff. Mann alleged false arrest and beatings. Judge W. E. Gee granted the motion. Adams' office collected $6.50 in witness fees.

A fire in Denison killed Navy 28 and his wife Florence 50 both described as negroes. The blaze destroyed their house today with both victims burned to death.

Scout University Third Session Tonight

The third session of Scouters University an annual training school for Boy Scout leaders will be held at 7:30 at Amarillo High School armory. Over 100 Amarillo and Panhandle businessmen attended the first two sessions. Tonight plans will be made for an outdoor class at Palisades State Park. Mrs. Jack Brown Dies After Long Illness

Mrs. Jack Brown, 44, long-time Amarillo resident, died at 4 a.m. in a local hospital after a prolonged illness. She leaves husband Jack Brown and four daughters in Borger, Amarillo, Tulsa and Santa Fe, plus two brothers and a sister. Her body rests at Blackburn Shaw Funeral Chapel pending arrangements.

Four Face Life Terms in Kidnap And Torture Case

Dr. Kent W. Berry and three companions were found guilty of kidnapping and torturing Irving E. Baker. Jurors recommended life imprisonment for all four defendants. sentencing to follow. Elk Officials Fly to Dallas for State Elks Meeting

Bert Levy Exalted Ruler of the Amarillo Elks Lodge and Mark Perry executive secretary flew to Dallas by Braniff this morning to attend a state Elks meeting. Houston Lodge officers will stage an initiation ceremony this evening as part of the program. Levy and Perry plan to return to Amarillo by air after the meetings.
