Two tenderfoot cowboys from the East attempted a Western style train holdup on the Southern Pacific Passenger Train Apache near El Paso. W. L. Smith, a trainman, was killed as passengers and crew overpowered the robbers at Mount Riley NM and handed them to deputies in Deming NM. The suspects were Henry Lorenz 22 of Monitoner Wis and Harry Dwyer 27 of Digby County Nova Scotia.
