In Houston on a November morning, Sam E Reading 27 and a young woman were bound gagged and robbed by a white man while a driving rain drenched the area. Reading was found bound by officers seeking stolen autos and both victims were treated for exposure at a hospital.
Ten jurors were chosen by noon for the trial of H. R. DeLong and Jack Behr charged with assaulting a girl aboard a box car on a freight train near Amarillo on November 12. Fifty six of sixty six potential jurors had been examined when court recessed. Moscow reports Russia plans a national day of rest starting December 1 under the council of the people's commissars. The six day cycle replaces the stagger system with holidays on the 6th, 12th, 18th, 24th and 30th. Sundays retain no special status. The First State Bank of Larue near Athens was robbed of 1200 at noon as President Tucker Glenn was locked in the vault by a masked armed man. Glenn freed himself minutes after the bandit fled. The bank had seen prior break ins in the past year with kidnapping and failed torch attempt.
Khiva Shriners prepared for their annual ceremonial at the Masonic Temple tonight at 7 30 with novices to be initiated into the Ancient Arabic Order of Nobles of the Mystic Shrine. A dance follows at 10 00. Potentate R P Parcells urges all Khiva Temple members to attend and visiting Shriners are invited.
A lengthy Austin conference between Carl Estes, Tyler editor, and James V. Allred, Texas attorney general, discussed the suit to oust 15 large Texas oil companies for alleged antitrust violations. Estes, a leader in opposing East Texas production restrictions, provided information from his private oil industry inquiry and pledged support.
A sharp fall in temperatures hit Dallas on November 24 as thermometers plunged, signaling an abrupt cold spell for the region. The cooling trend followed a day of unsettled weather with brisk winds and overcast skies.
In Altus Oklahoma Mrs Dave Allen 24 lies near death from extensive burns after a home fire that killed Elsie 2 and Grady 4 Allen children. A coal stove explosion trapped the family and Mrs Allen tried to rescue them while neighbors pulled her from the flames. The children were found beneath a bed. The father Dave Allen reported to Jackson County jail for a 30 day liquor sentence two hours earlier.
SAN FRANCISCO November 24 1927 Mayor James J. Walker of New York arrives to press for a pardon for Tom Mooney imprisoned for the Preparedness Day bombing in 1916. Gov James Rolph will decide Mooney’s fate as officials greet the visitor and Walker asserts the case is serious and not political. Police Captain Charles Goff counters that Walker uses the case to distract from his own administration, maintaining Mooney's guilt.
