Hoover outlines Mississippi flood control and navigation plan
President Hoover proposes deepening and modernizing the Mississippi to enable flood control, population growth handling, and improved transport. He envisions nine thousand miles of waterways spanning twenty states with a north south trunk line and an east west link, plus headwater storage to curb floods and boost reclamation and power. The proposed program would require under 125.6 million dollars in investment and aims to unify fragmented existing works into a comprehensive system.
