AWOL 18-Year-Old Draws Draft Board Scrutiny

An 18-year-old, claiming to be Private Henry W. Davis of Fort Bragg, arrived at a draft board office hungry and AWOL. He had enlisted at Welch, West Virginia, prompting officials to alert his unit commander. A Borger volunteer, eager to join classmates, caused a chain of calls and police action to return him to Borger before proceeding.

Children Bring Toys to Paramount Matinee for Free Admission

Hundreds of Amarillo children will bring a toy to the Paramount Theater at 10 am to gain free admission to the Sandy Gets Her Man matinee. The event, sponsored by the downtown Kiwanis Club with the fire department and theater, collects toys for the Kiwanis Christmas party and repairs them for distribution. Toy-toting children also receive a free bus ride downtown.

Capt. Polk Ivy of the Texas Highway Patrol announced patrols would run tomorrow with all available men. On the Amarillo Lubbock route the Amarillo patrol will work to the district’s southern edge where the Lubbock district patrol will take over.

Alfred Witt and Weldon Belcher of Carson County were held in the Potter County jail today on felony theft charges filed in Randall County. The men were charged with theft of parts stripped from tractors.

Gibraltar anti aircraft batteries repelled planes over fortress

In Algeciras Spain on November 20 anti aircraft batteries at Gibraltar and ships fired for about 20 minutes as a small group of enemy planes circled over the fortification at noon. The planes departed without attacking or bombing the harbor.
