Thirteen Sentenced in Saratoga Lottery Case
Thirteen men labeled knights of the Double Cross were given prison terms up to two years by Federal Judge Colin Neblett for running the Saratoga sweepstakes lottery last summer. Nine convicted by a jury, three pleaded guilty, one acquitted. Jack Michaelson received the heaviest sentence of two years and a $35,000 fine. others included fines and various probation terms for defendants from Albuquerque, El Paso, Dillon, and Kansas City. More than a million $1 lottery tickets were distributed nationwide though no prizes were awarded.

Reduced Passenger Fare Is Authorized
A cent and three quarters per mile rail fare on parts of the Texas and Pacific Railway is authorized by the state railroad commission effective December 1. The reduction from two cents per mile applies to Dallas to Big Spring and Fort Worth to Texarkana via Sherman after the commission amended a prior request for a cent and a half.
