Thousands gather at Estell, Turkey, Parnell and Quitaque stations to greet the Fort Worth and Denver’s new line as seven special trains roll into Amarillo area. Delegation from Amarillo feted at Quitaque last night.
Tonight and Wednesday, fair and slightly warmer. North portions colder tonight with 40 and 26 as observed today. temperatures by hour show a rise toward noon. In West Texas and Oklahoma, tonight mainly fair, tomorrow partly cloudy and warmer especially in the north and east regions.
A massive blast at a French army cartridge plant near Vincennes destroys the facility and injures many workers. Twelve people are dead and officials rush to the scene to determine the cause as troops are stationed nearby. Paul Painleve, war minister, visits the site with police and Red Cross ambulances respond.
Harold W. English, Amarillo Airport manager, carried 2,000 copies of The Amarillo News to the special eight Trains trip at Childress. The 50 minute flight in his Ryan Brougham arrived at 7 20 o clock. Papers delivered to passengers on the two day Ft Worth and Denver railroad South Plains line inaugural ride. English to fly to Plainview with another bundle of 2,000 papers and deliver to Charles Underwood of The News-Globe before most trippers wake.
Babe Hunt Oklahoma heavyweight champion needed 14 stitches after a collision on a Ponca City Tonkawa highway bridge. Hunt and friend Alvin Crown confronted farmer Jim Vickers who allegedly swiped Hunt with a pocket knife. Vickers was jailed. no charges filed.
Abilene Texas November 20 Ranger High school quarterback Lee Hammett was declared ineligible by the District 2 Interscholastic League Executive committee last night yet no games were forfeited. Cisco to rematch Ranger but Roy Henderson reversed the ruling in a phone call with Ranger superintendent R F Holloway. Abilene refused a forfeit of its tie with Ranger and Ranger still leads the district.
Tom Shelton a 20 year old Amarillo youth was arraigned before Justice J W Minter on assault with intent to kill for stabbing his brother in law Sam Wray during a family quarrel Sunday. Wray remains in a dangerous condition at St Anthony's hospital with the knife piercing his shoulder and lung area. Shelton meanwhile is recovering from influenza and may need hospital care. He says Wray attacked him as he rested from illness and he used a butcher knife as a last resort.
Robert W. Stewart faces jury deliberations after closing arguments in a perjury trial tied to his Senate testimony about Continental Trading. The case spans oil interests and the Teapot Dome era with witness testimony from a bank president, a retired railroad VP, and others, amid a broader political scandal.
A Greek steamer Alexandra drifting north of Fayal in the Azores with her rudder broken. Motor launches could not reach her due to rough seas as a Gazelle tug and other vessels respond to the distress. An SOS was sent minutes before a rescue attempt.
In Amarillo district civil court this week J. B. Rainey settled with Dr. R. S. Killlough for 1000 dollars for injuries and car damages from a crash with Alvis Killough last year. The original suit sought 51000 dollars. A separate verdict awarded 750 dollars to R. H. Latham against Thompson Drug Co with LeRoy Haigwood as driver found negligent for speeding.
Nine Amarillo youths were arrested by police in a scheme that stole eighteen motor cars since late October. Several vehicles were wrecked. all were recovered. A Buick Club coupe reported missing near the high school was found within an hour. Suspects Jack Smyer Billy Hart Hampton Hart and Anthony Smyer were detained. a female passenger was released. Detective O H Denton and Motorcycle Officer H G Dunwoody led the arrests.
President elect Herbert Hoover plans a broad goodwill tour to Central and South America aboard the battleship Maryland. He faces port access limits due to ship size and fuel, and may stop in Honduras Guatemala Corinto or Nicaragua before crossing the Andes to Chile with possible stays in Florida before inauguration. Meanwhile police report a lengthy car theft confession by youths from 13 to 16, naming Jack Smyers and others as involved in multiple October and November thefts near the Municipal auditorium.
The Chanters of Khiva Temple presented their first fall concert before a small but critical audience in the high school auditorium last night. soloist Mrs. L B Newby assisted. the program thrilled music lovers as the audience applauded enthusiastically after each number.
Police arrested Mrs Elizabeth Wood after she played the radio after midnight in Evanston. She resisted and slapped Officer Georgianna Juul when confronted about the disturbance under a new midnight radio ordinance.
The Associated Press reports Augustus J. McCloskey Democrat was declared elected to Congress from Texas fourteenth district by 240 votes over incumbent Harry M. Wurzbach after Bexar County Commissioners Court completed the official canvas.
The water works department will shut off service promptly for non payment with no 24 hour grace period. City auditor Thos F Cartwright notes notices will be issued for mislaid bills and only in rare cases of overlooked payments.
Avery Brundage a Chicago contractor and former all around athletic champion was elected president of the National Amateur Athletic Union by unanimous vote at the 192% convention. He succeeds Murray Hulbert of New York. In Huntsville a dog sergeant on Goree state prison farm was freed in a 45 minute trial on a murder charge, after escaping confinement.

Captain Edward Keane, inspector of hulls, testified he was not intoxicated when he passed the steamer Vestris as seaworthy before its sinking with more than 100 lives lost. The probe at the customs house reviewed a November 14 letter accusing the inspector of a drunken breakfast and barroom revelry aboard the vessel.
Hofflinger, charged with a de gravated assault on a 14 year old newsboy, was acquitted in county court yesterday afternoon after a jury found him not guilty. He admitted watching his son and the other boy in a downtown alley but denied striking the witness. Civil cases are being heard in court today.
A street car carrying nearly twenty passengers sped four blocks down a hill at Homestead Pennsylvania after brake failure. Crew struggled to regain control as riders panicked and several attempted to leap from the car before it crashed into another trolley near the hill’s foot.
Gun squads patrolled East Omaha swamps seeking a young negro suspected of killing three people and injuring a fourth. The string of deaths began with J. W. Blackman, 75, and continued with Gertrude Resso, 71, and Creda Brown, 18, found crushed in their home. Police link the cases due to similar methods and believe one assailant committed all.
