Police launched a new search for Brooke Hart the missing son of a San Jose merchant after a tip from Mrs. Harry Schwartz who runs a Hollywood cafe. A young man matching Hart’s description reportedly visited the cafe in a dazed state and asked for food, hatless in a white sweater.
Miami correspondent reports Titvinoff from Australia at Mount Vernon standing before Washingtons tomb with head uncovered. The note recalls Lloyd Georges view that war danger in Europe is subsiding and Germany cannot wage war, while Britain resists French actions toward Russia and pacifist propaganda cools.
President Roosevelt named Henry Morgenthau Jr. acting secretary of the treasury as Woodin takes a complete leave of absence for rest and recuperation. Dean Acheson resigns. Morgenthau's appointment follows Woodin submitting his resignation and remaining unpaid during the absence.
The Texas Relief Commission is poised to approve a paved highway from Llano Cemetery to Palisades State Park. Julius Dorenfield Jr. says state highway engineers will supervise and 500 to 1,000 workers may be hired this week. The program could payroll at least 100000 dollars monthly.
The Red Cross campaign in Potter County will run November 23 to 25 with 200 volunteers canvassing Amarillo. Memberships start at $1 with fifty cents allocated to national disaster relief and the rest kept locally, as Bill Gilstrap announced.
Four masked gangsters armed with two machine guns halted a mail track at a downtown intersection in Charlotte and fled with four packages of registered mail. The Piedmont Limited from Washington had just delivered the sacks.
William K. Vanderbilt the Third died in an automobile accident in Ridgeland near Washington today. Police reported the fatal crash occurred this morning with no immediate details on other persons involved.
In Austin, a legislative committee heard that 111 of 356 state highway department workers have relatives on state pay rolls. Six family members work for the state. four in the highway department. Other relatives are in the State Banking Department and the State Railroad Commission.
Dallas, Nov. 15. Mrs. L. W. Boone, 35, lured Mrs. Pearl Hall, 30, to the Boone home and fatally shot her while her husband slept, after learning of alleged infidelity. Boone said his wife fired one 45 automatic shot and ordered him not to move. Neighbor Mrs. Morrison summoned an ambulance. Mrs Boone claimed she had received calls that her husband was stepping out and discussed the report with him.
Former Prairie Oil and Gas head William S. Fitzpatrick testified before Senate investigators that a 1929 gift of 300 052.73 from a Sinclair profits syndicate was believed to be from the Rockefeller family as a reward to a faithful employee. He said he received 25 percent of profits totaling 149 000, rather than the 10 percent he expected, and that the Rockefeller name carried risk in Kansas and Oklahoma when he joined the venture in 1908. The session opened in New Orleans with uproar over the investigation of Senator Overton, as the crowd challenged the committee and its methods.
Approximately $200 worth of narcotics and prescription liquor were stolen from City Drug Store No. 1 at 517 Polk Street after 12:30 this morning. The burglar entered through a second floor wall into the prescription department and pried open the large safe. Only powder and tablet narcotics were taken while liquid drugs were left untouched. A pinch bar and tools were found near the safe and fingerprints were obtained. No arrests were reported by noon.
The Federal Relief Administration will buy 20 000 to 30 000 low grade Texas beef cattle for needy families in Texas. Administrator Hopkins allocates 500 000 dollars to Lawrence Westbrook to finance the purchase. Canned beef will be processed at 16 Texas plants by Civil Works Administration workers under Texas A and M supervision. Processing sites include Dallas San Antonio Houston Waco Austin Amarillo Beaumont El Paso Tyler Wichita Falls Texarkana Brownsville San Angelo Lubbock Abilene and Paris.
A westbound Rock Island passenger train derailed after an open switch tampered with in Booneville Arkansas. Three people were slightly injured including engineer W C McGoff of Little Rock passenger Mrs James Gwyn of Amarillo Texas and brakeman Brain Goodwin. Fireman W P Eubanks escaped injury. Mrs Gwyn was returning from Clinton Kentucky with husband. the Gwyn home is in Lincoln Street, Amarillo. An investigation is underway with clues to the switch opener.
Forecast shows fair conditions in Amarillo tonight with Thursday partly cloudy and warmer. West Texas expected fair tonight and Thursday with north portion warmer. New Mexico sees fair skies with little temperature change. Today’s temperature extremes reach 38 to 54 by 1 PM.
In Temple Texas the state links torn nightshirt fragments and an old steel automobile axle to Will Querner a 56 year old railway repair worker charged with the murder of Dr. A M Clifford 58 a veterinarian who lived in a rooming house operated by Mrs Querner The body was found east of Temple and investigators say a blow caused the death Querner was sent to Austin for safekeeping after a statement to Sheriff George Zivley and District Attorney Henry Taylor.
Panhandle livestock men plan a strong push for higher cattle product prices with letters and telegrams to Secretary Wallace and Congress. Led by Jay Taylor, the Panhandle Livestock Association seeks nationwide cooperation and may send a delegation to Washington. They also urge recognizing Russia to aid cattle operations, citing President Taylor’s talks with the Russian ambassador.
Edward N. Hurley, 69, former chairman of the US Shipping Board, died after leukemia and pneumonia complications in Chicago. He had just returned from Miami and Washington and also led a machine company and served as co-receiver of Middlewest Utilities after the Insull collapse. A second brief notes 16 year old George Clark killed by a truck on the Tyler Henders on highway while walking to cut wood.
Directors launched a clean up drive hoping to add at least ten thousand to last week’s take while Chest headquarters report twenty seven thousand already raised. Ployd Studer sets the annual target at forty five thousand as pledges roll in from eight agencies and unpaid pledges from last year near twelve thousand.

After a White House conference with President Roosevelt and Soviet Foreign Commissar Maxim Litvinoff, officials said progress toward recognition of the Soviet Union was under way. If talks continue, Litvinoff may be invited to accompany the President to Warm Springs, Georgia.
Fran chot Tone said he has asked Joan Crawford to marry him and will keep asking, while she remains Mrs. Douglas Fairbanks Jr. and not considering matrimony. The pair arrived from Hollywood for shopping and theater. Tone plans to return in a week. Joan called Tone a very nice young man and declined to answer.
Havana dispatches report Col. Pulgencio Batista orders soldiers in Oriente to pursue rebels to the death with no prisoners. The move follows ongoing clashes as government troops seek to restore order after Machado’s overthrow. Five rebels were killed near El Cristo with further engagements at Holguin and Las Delicias.
