Two convicts tried to break from Goree prison farm near Huntsville Texas. W. C. Folson of Amarillo killed by guard Arthur Thomas after Folson shouted to shoot. Folson had earlier tried to escape with Jack Turnipseed from Grayson County confinement. Folson previously identified with a station robbery and pursuit from Canyon. Authorities note Folson’s ongoing escape attempts while serving a five year term.

Vesuvius Erupts Again Near Naples Amid Lava Streams

In Naples on November 15 the eruption of Mount Vesuvius intensified as incandescent lava poured from a base cone and fissures in the main crater. The activity focused near the northwest flank under the cable railway toward the summit, drawing tourists and scientists but not delighting locals.

Man shoots wife over cigarette then kills himself

In Los Angeles last night Robert Johnson shot and wounded his wife and a man who tried to intervene, then killed himself at the home of the wife’s parents. Police say the couple had just reconciled after a week apart. a boarder, Bernard May, 45, was shot in the chest.

Assault Case Dismissed in Gaither Trial

The aggravated assault charge against Chief of Police H. L. Gaither was dismissed after the complainant failed to appear in Potter county court. George Downing had alleged the attack occurred on Polk Street after a conversation about the chief.
