Ghost town Charleston vanishes from Huntington county
In Huntington Indiana a ghost town named Charleston faded after 1835 founder Peter Wire dreamed of a great city. By 1939 land sales at Mt. Etna spurred moves, and within years all claims and houses were removed, leaving only farm land and no physical trace of Charleston. The note adds national population growth of 26 million from 1920 to 1940.
