Talking to His Mule in a Rural Letter
A hillside farmer speaks to his mule named Bill in a reflective monologue about labor and partnership. He describes crop harvests, rent shares, and family needs as he divides the crop after sharing with the landowner and others. He ends with a plaintive line about fairness to Bill.
