Funeral services set for Mark Hardin in Amarillo

Funeral services for Martin H. Mark Hardin will be held Tuesday at 10 in Central Presbyterian Church with Dr. R Thomson officiating. Pallbearers include J M Oakes D W Mays and others. Burial with Masonic rites at Llano Cemetery follows. Hardin died at 10:45 a m yesterday at 907 Madison Street after five weeks illness. He was 63 and long active in Amarillo public life including as first city manager under the commission form, first district clerk after division, and later tax assessor for the Amarillo Independent School District. He was born April 12 1878 in Fulton Mississippi and came to Amarillo in 1907. He was a Rough Rider and member of several local orders. The district and tax offices closed today in tribute. Burial at Llano Cemetery.

British Sink Italian Ships In Mediterranean Blitz

Eleven Die As Express Jumps Tracks In Ohio Derailment

Eleven killed and at least 42 injured when a Pennsylvania flyer derailed in Dunkirk Ohio after a 1000 pound cylinder head blew onto the tracks from a west bound freight. The Pennsylvanian and freight did not collide. a 14 year old boy named Nino Bottalla aided his brothers from the wreckage.

Wheel er quotes sailor claim sinking subs aboard Reuben James

U P dispatch reports Sen. Burton K Wheel er of Montana releasing a letter from a Reuben James sailor to his mother stating the destroyer sank two submarines before being torpedoed. Wheeler cites the claim while noting Churchill’s remark on US navy actions against the Axis.

Armistice Day Revival Parade In Amarillo Fetes Past

Memories of the first Armistice celebrated in Amarillo will be revived with an 11 o'clock parade down Polk Street led by marshal Cliff Barnett. The event, sponsored by the American Legion with theme Unity For Defense, includes civic groups bands and units. The day features a Bank holiday and postal service suspension with a two hour general delivery window. A later football game at Butler Field pits Borger Bulldogs against the Sandies, followed by the Armistice Day dinner and dance at The Nat.

Local hunter brings back eight point buck from New Mexico

Earl Elliott Jr returned from a one day hunting trip in eastern New Mexico with an eight point buck weighing 250 pounds. He killed the deer on the Baca Ranch near Tucumcari. Elliott is the son of Mr and Mrs W Earl Elliott of 411 A Carolina Street.
