President Truman urged all Americans to cooperate in solving the nation’s problems from the White House porch. Thousands cheered as he rode from Union Station to the executive mansion, thanking the people of Washington for a triumphant welcome home.
The crowd along the route and near the White House numbers in the hundreds of thousands, with officials estimating from 500000 to 775000 attendees. Redwood City reporter notes a suit filed for 1600 dollars alleging damages from Sophie the cocker spaniel. The plaintiff claims the whelping of zinc pups hurt a show dog value and required 40 hours of care at 25 dollars per hour. James Lemons of Phillips, 30, married with two children, is charged with car theft and armed robbery in a Borger incident Wednesday night. He was arrested at his Phillips home by Hutchinson County Sheriff and Borger police. A 21-year-old Borger woman reported a gunman forced her to drive, rammed another car, and later released her after threatening with a nickel-plated item. The recovered car was traced to Lemons’ home. The report notes Lemons is from Lawton Oklahoma and recently moved to Phillips.

Gunfire shattered four Western Service Station windows after closing, with one five foot glass pane broken in the front door. Police report a 22 caliber slug found inside the station, possibly fired between 10 PM and 1 AM. Detective Captain J. L. King notes the blast. Sheriff Adams has officers patrolling for indiscriminate shooters nearby.
Ree peet ee released from Stateville Penitentiary after seeking more time for Bible study and faith. He declined an offer to remain, saying the world was too large and corrupt. He plans to leave after six months of study, with Rev. Peter Tanis greeting him in Wheaton.

New York November 3—Stock prices tumbled as taxes, labor, controls and housing fears spurred a savage selling drive. The market fell across leading issues including US Steel, General Motors, Chrysler and Standard Oil while ticker tape lagged up to four minutes as rapid orders pushed prices down.
The Northwes tern University Traffic Institute director James Stannard Baker states that drivers with extremely high or extremely low intelligence are the poorest. He argues that average or moderately intelligent drivers with good training and sharp senses are the safest and most careful on the road.
In Sharpsburg Pennsylvania a 37 year old bartender Nicholas Antico burst into the jail and shot 75 year old William Moore a suspected child molester twice in the heart. Antico fired after asking a sergeant to witness and claimed Moore had raped his daughter Moore died at St Francis Hospital Antico to be charged with murder.
