Amarillo Mayor Claims 100 Disconnect Orders Issued

The Amarillo phone rate fight produced competing claims of progress as Mayor Ernest O. Thompson said over 2,000 of the citys 10 440 lines had been ordered disconnected, while Southwestern Bell district manager G N Hailey reported only 69 subscribers affected. He noted about half of imminent disconnects are rescinded after subscriber interviews. A chamber of commerce drive continued to push for more disconnections and a conference of company officials gathered to discuss the rate cut implemented September 1. The mayor threatened to award a franchise to another firm as 1,113 signed orders were reported, excluding 29 hotel orders.

Magnolia Petroleum raises crude oil prices in two states

Magnolia Petroleum Company announced a 15 cent per barrel price increase for Louisiana and Arkansas crude. The top price under the new schedule is 83 cents a barrel for Bull Bayou crude in Louisiana, and 63 cents a barrel for Eldorado crude in Arkansas. Prices quoted at the wells and became effective yesterday.

Three Bandits Rob Bank in Konawa Oklahoma

Three men robbed the First National Bank of Konawa Oklahoma on November 5. The cashier N Burton and two employees E Douthitt and H W Courtney were held at gunpoint as two robbers sprayed the lobby with shots while the third filled the till. Authorities had no trace of the bandits shortly after the robbery.
