About 150 youths clashed with officers tearing down a 50 foot fence in an alley near Polk Street. Frank Taggart, a Sixteenth Avenue fireman, was wounded by brick and temple injuries as tear gas and hoses dispersed the crowd. Police logged 59 calls and the city saw scattered vandalism and overturned outbuildings before dawn.
