Pastors Protest Smuggled Wine at Communion Service
Pittsburgh May 31 Several Presbyterian ministers protested to the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church USA against using smuggled wine in a communion service. The wine from Yugoslavia was used at sessions in Cincinnati. Margaret Shannon of Foreign Missions said the wine was brought at the request of a woman who wanted it for an American service. A telegram from local ministers rejected condoning lawbreaking or any appearance of evil by alcohol in sacred rites. Rev Dr William Norris Wrysham confirmed the wine’s use.
