Entertainment Budget Drive Opens For Convention Year
The drive to raise the annual budget for entertaining convention visitors began today with about fifteen committees joining in. O V Vernon secretary of the Board of City Development said $4 000 will be needed for the coming year. The first big event is the state press meet June 18 to 20 requiring upwards of $1 600 to entertain editors. Amarillo will host more than twenty five conventions next year.

A late yesterday tornado hit Wetumka Warner and Checotah in eastern Oklahoma, killing nine and injuring scores. In Wetumka seven people died as thirty homes were razed. Warner lost two lives and many injuries occurred. Checotah saw unroofed houses and flooded streets. The same storm earlier near Stringtown killed a farmer and four children. Relief crews searched ruins overnight as damage spread across a one block by three block area.
