In New York a defense rested in the Donald Carroll murder trial as psychiatrists testified the 16 year old did not grasp the nature of his act when he killed Charlotte Matthiesen. He said she believed death was the most beautiful way out and they had discussed Mayerling before he shot her.
The Mexican government reported Cedillista raids and air attacks with some pilots from the United States. Fighting occurred near El Rucio and Villela Hacienda in San Luis Potosi, with 80 rebels and six soldiers killed near La Sauceda Guanajuato. President Cardenas sent teachers and engineers to aid villages, assess needs, and promote development projects across the state.
Arnold Ralph Johnson to confess he killed William S. Brown president of the general drivers union after a dispute over funds. Johnson said Brown drew about 200 dollars from his pocket at a bar, Brown refused, Johnson fired twice near their car. Johnson, an organizer for the union, was taken into custody after boasting of the slaying.
Claude M. Baker of San Francisco claims a decisive 2 to 1 lead over Charles P. Howard in ballots for new International Typographical Union officials. Baker cites 10 562 votes to 5 939 with nearly 900 chapels voting in the United States and Canada. The issue centers on CIO loyalty versus AFL affiliation.
United Press reports Premier Kongoue's government grants greater cabinet influence to army leaders to unify national efforts in prosecuting the China war. Meantime, fighting shifts toward Hankow while European tensions escalate with Berlin warning on frontier violations. Alicante bombings kill hundreds and injure over a thousand as Loyalist and foreign observers push for action to halt the violence.

The Works Progress Administration in the Panhandle moved to speed up hopper control by assigning men to poison mixing plants in multiple counties. A. A. Meredith from San Antonio ordered the plant start, with work beginning tomorrow under county agents. The program, including broadcasts on Station KGNC, aims to reduce county expenses and expand poisoning across Potter and surrounding counties. Over 12,000 pounds of poison were spread in Potter County yesterday.

Widow Anna Laura Barnett, tied to the late oil magnate Jackson Barnett, is jailed in Los Angeles on contempt charges for refusing to relinquish furnishings tied to a 7672 dollar 26 cent judgment as courts weighed her claim to the Indian's fortune and their marriage status.
The Potter County grand jury recessed today until next Wednesday after returning four indictments. Among those named was M. T. Rawlings charged with disposal of mortgaged property and held in California with extradition proceedings started. Other indicted individuals had not been taken into custody.
