Arthur Brisbane laments pacifist street demonstration in New York amid air show displays and notes urban civility in Los Angeles mayor’s European trip. He cites Russian cautionary policy on carelessness, and discusses nurture versus heredity in a famed ape upbringing experiment.
Mrs. Margaret Summers 47 held to grand jury on four murder charges after a coroner's jury found four men died of slow poisoning in her home including her husband 37 and her 17 year old nephew. She says the policies were gifts for kindness and denies the accusations.
Humble Oil and Refining Co lowers East Texas crude prices by 30 cents per barrel and posts East Texas fields separately from Mexia and Powell. New postings set gravity 35 at 35 cents and range up to 37 cents for 40 gravity-plus, with price cuts justified by lower product values and railroad commission issues.
Governor Ross Sterling said he would decide in two to three days whether to call a special session focused on oil conservation. He warned prices could not be sustained, noting East Texas offers fall and a Humble Company cut prices prompting urgent action.

The United States grand jury resumes hearings this week with numerous witnesses summoned from across the state including as far as San Antonio. State convicts are brought in by Warden W. W. Wade for possible testimony as the panel weighs potential charges tied to liquor conspiracy. The court also opens a three week session with the case Armstrong and Byrd vs Skelly Oil Company seeking lease cancellations or damages up to 3 million dollars on land eight miles west of Stinnett Hutchinson county.
The Potter County grand jury reassembled this morning and has returned several bills this term with indications that other indictments will be filed this week. Dependable radio repairing. Ph. 4050.
In Oklahoma City, May 26, a robbery was stalled when Mrs. Louell Whalen recognized one bandit as a former country schoolmate from near Tuttle. She and C. F. Holland faced the armed pair in a downtown real estate office. the robber fled after recognizing her.
May 26 1930 Mexico City reports a potential shift in government policy to legalize games of chance near the US border. President Ortiz Rubio has ordered governors to curb gambling while allowing existing concessions idle. Tamaulipas and Nuevo Leon sightings note new large gambling establishments opening.
Archie Goldstone, convicted last Saturday of stealing a $35 000 jewelry trunk by switching express trunk tags, asks for a new trial in Criminal District Court. He was tried in 1929 on the same charge, received six years, later reversed and remanded by the Court of Criminal Appeals. The recent verdict imposes five years in prison. Ideal Mattress Co. Charles F. Roeser of Fort Worth says Humble Oil trims East Texas crude by 30 cents due to over production. He cites field output near double the allotment, unequal withdrawals, and over-running quotas causing distress oil under mid continent prices as prices adjust to the average.
In Dallas on May 26, Humble Oil and Refining Co announced a price reduction for oil in the East Texas field. Oil men expect the move to intensify the proration controversy and spur a possible immediate special legislative session. R. D. Parker warned noncomplying operators risk alienating those who follow rules if cooperation does not improve.
Gov. Ross S. Sterling denounced placing cattle tick repayment in the pink boll worm bill calling it death by own action. He warned the state cannot afford a total $1,000,000 for tick eradication reimbursements and noted doubts about approving the $980,000 state college building program.
Ratón New Mexico May 26 officers search for identity of a man found in a shallow ditch on Raton Pass thirty miles from the scene of a blood stained car tied to the disappearance of Ray Sutton prohibition agent missing since August 28. Prohibition officials led a large hunt with airplanes as deputies and local volunteers traced leads.
Joe Caccica 31 of Bryn Mawr and his mechanic Clarence Grove 23 of Hav erford were killed during practice for the upcoming 500 mile race in Indianapolis. Their car lost a tire, vaulted the wall, struck a tree and crashed. Caccica was preparing for a qualification run when the accident happened. A second separate report from Chicago notes four crewmen perished in a Blue Streak plane speed attempt near Glen Ellyn while the National Aeronautical Association oversaw the test.
The New York Stock Exchange issued a questionnaire to members about bearish operations in a first broad inquiry by its business conduct committee since last autumn. President Richard Whitney said the probe found no excessive or unethical bearish activity in the autumn crash, though severe penalties exist for artificial depressions.
Potter County commissioners convened as a board of equalization to review state and county tax renditions. Hundreds of citizens have not rendered values and the board will fix the assessed amounts. School tax equalization will follow after the state and county rolls, with the unrendered list still open.
Virgil Kirkland's counsel argued in his second trial for the death of Arlene Draves that he was not guilty of assault and battery or of violating the prohibition law, much less murder. Ronald Oldham defended Kirkland's actions at the Gary party in November. With final arguments and instructions, jurors were to decide, as prosecutors sought the death penalty.
Kansas City voters faced a decision on two bond issues totaling about 40 million dollars for city and county projects. The city items totaled 32 million and the county proposals 7.95 million, with 16 city and four county items voted separately.
Thieves broke into the Rand al Drug Company No 1 store at 428 Taylor Street by dropping a skylight and escaped with about $100 in cash and $250 in merchandise early Tuesday. Police found the rear door open at 6 am and believe intruders entered from the roof. The burglars opened every case and desks. only high value items were taken and a gun left on a desk. Clues are being followed.
May 26. Ard W Bridgetts a 29 year old clerk turned himself into police with his attorney after being sought for the killing of Dr Joseph T Loughlin a Brooklyn surgeon in a pistol duel at Marine Park. He was wounded in the arm and hospitalized for questioning.
Johnny Miller and his four blade autogiro will spend the day and night at Amarillo's English Field after a weather delay. The craft drew large crowds, was described as an airplane fuselage with stubby wings and a blade axis, and can hover and land vertically. Miller planned to depart for Albuquerque then Los Angeles.
Baylor University announced that Dean W. B. Allen was named acting president by the board of trustees following the death of Dr. L. P. Brooks. He will serve until a permanent president is chosen.
Borger Independent School District property owners voted 199 to 77 in favor of a $1.50 maintenance tax increase. Declining property values, from 10 million to about 7 million, prompted the election to secure a nine month term, under legislation enacted two years prior.
