Heavy rain blankets Panhandle and North Texas boosting crops as a deputy sheriff and farmer clash on a highway near Lamesa ends in murder charges. The incident follows a day of widespread showers from Wildorado to Amarillo, with 7 inch cloudbursts and scattered hail.
Mrs Mery Dach a 32 year old widowed farm owner from near Schulenburg Texas was sentenced to death in the electric chair for killing Henry Stoever 58 a farm hand. Dach confessed saying Stoever attacked her and mistreated the children and she buried his body in a pit under a chicken house. Her lawyers gave notice of appeal as her three children sobbed nearby.
Washington May 25 J P Morgan told Senate investigators he paid income tax in England but not in the United States during the past two years due to legal differences. He said England did not allow capital loss deductions permitted in the U S. The hearing also showed former President Calvin Coolidge purchased 3,000 shares on the Standard Brands list. William H Woodin was named on the Alleghany allotment and as a close friend buyer. The testimony touched on stock sales to Raskob and Nutt in 1929.
New York May 25 The American Iron and Steel Institute opened its 1933 meeting with confidence as steel manufacturers from leading producing centers noted spring expansion in operations and expected further gains Bethlehem Steel Corp chairman Charles M Schwab said current activity is far from ideal but more than double recent levels and trending in the right direction.
