Sara Wescoat received the inaugural Laura V. Hamner scholarship for the Panhandle Pen Women short course in fiction and article writing. Roma Stephenson of Childress won the second award among seven entries. the program runs June 8 9 10 led by Frederic Nelson Litten of Northwest University. A Brisbane doctor saved his spaniel by sucking poison from a snake bite.

Gas Meter Supply for City Adequate Despite Steel Shortage
Ama rilo Gas Co. President H R Budke said the city will have enough gas meters for current needs and the rest of the year despite coal strike related steel shortages. A shipment of 1000 meters arrived in March, the largest in over 15 years, with a possible additional shipment this summer.

Captain McKamy to pilot body transfer of Father Flanagan
Captain James H. McKamy, son of Mr and Mrs James E McKamy, flew a bomber that carried Father Flanagan’s body from Berlin to Smoky Hill Air Base Salina Kansas for final transfer to a C 47. He is a B 29 pilot with World War II service and has the Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal with three oak leaf clusters. His wife Laura Stotts and daughter Elizabeth Ann joined him en route from Taft California to Salina.
