High School Pupils Report Witnessing Highway Deaths

About 200 Amarillo High School pupils admitted at a morning assembly that they had seen a person killed in an automobile accident. Infant Ronald Howard Dies of Pneumonia in Borger Area

Ronald D. Howard nine months old died today in a local hospital from pneumonia. Survived by parents Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Howard and grandparents Mr. and Mrs. W Brown of Lawton Oklahoma and Mrs. Virginia Howard of Enid. Body sent to Borger by Blackburn-Shaw funeral home. funeral services expected tomorrow afternoon in Borger.

Chamber Directors Called In Special Meeting

Amarillo Chamber of Commerce directors were called today in a special meeting by Walter Barlow president. A vacancy in the directorate will be filled and the session was to transact business postponed from Wednesday night dinner with Japanese visitors. Carl Hinton vice president and manager plans to leave tomorrow for Washington.

Archie Sword Sentenced to 14 Months in Federal Case

Archie A. Sword, star route carrier at Perryton, was sentenced to 14 months in prison and a two year suspended sentence on charges of tampering with the mails and forging a government check. Judge James C. Wilson handed down the federal sentence yesterday.

Priesthood Conferred on Rev Walter at Sacred Heart Cathedral

Bishop Lucey will ordain Rev Joseph H Walter at Sacred Heart Cathedral in a joint ordination Mass. Walter, born in East Saint Louis, studied at St Louis University High School Chaminade College and the University of Dayton, and completed theology at St John's Seminary Little Rock. He will celebrate his first Solemn Mass May 30 at St Mary Magdalen in St Louis before returning to Amarillo for priestly duties.

Texas Governor Refuses Resignation Amid Hospital Plans

Governor James V. Allred stated he will not resign as Texas debate centers on a proposed new West Texas hospital. He said the board of control recommended an 817000 facility to serve a vast, underserved West Texas area and relieve congestion elsewhere. Hope Brightens for Lives Of Three Remaining Quads

Mullins quadruplets born Wednesday near Muskogee Oklahoma received hope as the three surviving babies passed 48 hours in the hospital. One boy needed oxygen, the girl Night described as strongest by Superintendent Martha Linder. The fourth baby died shortly after birth.

Delegates urged creation of a dedicated authority to coordinate Wind eroded area work and oppose placing the Dust Bowl in a general flood control scheme. They urged Congress to back a bill for a special district if Norris bill lacks such provision citing inadequate current facilities and ongoing needs.
