Bribe Attempt Linked to Shephard Murder Trial

Chicago May 21 A suspected attempt to influence a venireman emerged in the trial of William Darling Shephard charged with killing his millionaire foster son William Nelson McClintock with typhoid germs. State's attorney Crowe ordered a full investigation and detectives were sent to arrest a man named by venireman Philip Barry who said he was urged to join the jury and promised a payoff. Barry was excused and testified, part of broader probes into jury tampering and witness interference. A special grand jury also probed the disappearance of star witness Robert White.

Union of Blue and Gray Considered at Dallas Meeting

At the United Confederate Veterans thirty fifth reunion in Dallas a plan for a lasting union of blue and gray was discussed signaling possible end of general reunions. A resolution highlighted waning Confederate and Grand Army of the Republic ranks and proposed joint reunions with the GAR before ending the general gathering.

Farmers of Amarillo to be honored at Kiwanis banquet

Farmers from the Amarillo area are invited as guests of the Kiwanis Club at a banquet tonight at the Hotel Palo Duro at 7 30. Over 100 farmers accepted. Bivins addition plans unveiled for Amarillo growth

Leonard Eppstein of Dallas and Mayor Lee Bivins announced a $789,000 improvement drive for the Bivins addition in Amarillo. Paving water gas electricity and sewer will be installed with contracts soon as 220 acres south of the Rock Island railroad are developed. The plan features a large boulevard from Tenth to Fifteenth streets and several parks to be donated.

Word ranch option extended to Amarillo for 30 days

Owners of the Word property volunteered a 30 day extension to the city. The City of Amarillo would not pay additional sums or commit to purchase at this time. Mayor Bivins and commission members discussed extension terms with C T Ward Tel Ware and Wynkoop Kiersted.

Dallas mob battles jail for two accused killers
